Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) / SkySpark

Group14 has helped many large private, public, and federal clients successfully implement SkySpark to achieve energy savings and improve facility operation. With our team’s depth of knowledge of building systems, experience with equipment controls, and unmatched SkySpark development experience, our clients can expect smooth implementation and high quality results.

Experience / Qualifications

  • A team of in-house SkySpark developers, including a lead developer with a strong software programming background
  • Unmatched SkySpark experience with over 7 million SF monitored on our cloud server for over 50 buildings
  • SkySpark software license with over 100,000 points available to our clients that can be accessed 24/7 from our cloud hosted server
  • Over 90 programmed rules in our library developed in-house and thoroughly tested

Our Process / Systems

Group14 has selected the SkySpark analytics software platform to quickly analyze equipment operation and identify improvements over time. SkySpark software pulls in data from the existing building automation system, weather stations, energy meters and any other source of data available. Analytics are then applied to the data using rules programmed by Group14 to quickly identify operational issues or “sparks.” Issues are then detected continuously for all similar types of equipment. Our process includes the following:

  • Set goals for energy savings and operational improvements
  • Collect documentation and create a plan
  • Integrate SkySpark with the Building Automation System and other data sources
  • Apply Group14’s sophisticated rule library and prepare reports
  • Perform an initial round of monitoring based commissioning (MBCx) to identify issues and opportunities
  • Continue hosting SkySpark software with 24/7 access
  • Perform Ongoing Commissioning such as building checkups, energy tracking, and measurement and verification (M&V)

The Group14 Difference

Group14 is one of the early adopters of Monitoring-Based Commissioning in the country and ahead of the curve on the latest uses and innovations. We have years of experience developing the SkySpark software tool and have implemented the software for complex facilities such as 750,000 sq.ft. high rises, laboratories, and campus environments. Our rule library has been thoroughly tested on projects and we have the ability to quickly customize to meet the needs of any project.
