Denver Housing Authority Self-Managed EPC and M&V
Group14 Engineering developed an $11 million Phase II Energy Performance Contract (EPC) in partnership with Denver Housing Authority (DHA). This project included an investment grade audit, and commissioning (Cx) the installation of efficiency lighting, low flow water fixtures, envelope improvements, energy star domestic water heaters and two stage condensing furnaces. Four high efficiency central plants were installed with real time fault detection and diagnostic monitoring systems. Group14 reviewed design documents, product submittals, selection, and sizing (using Manual J and S protocol), and commissioned the quality installation of at least 30 units of each technology type to ACCA 5 standards.
Group14 also provides annual Measurement and Verification (M&V) Services, utility allowance calculations, and reporting to the HUD Better Buildings Challenge. In 2015, Group14 partnered with Energy Outreach Colorado to launch a yearlong sustainability resident engagement program at West ridge, a 200 unit row type home family site.
Annual EPC savings of over $2.5 million has been verified using IPMVP protocol. This includes 46% water savings, 10% electric savings, and 34% natural gas savings over the baseline period. 187,015,000 gallons of water were saved, equivalent to 14 million kegs of beer, or 280 Olympic size swimming pools.
At Westridge, the resident engagement effort reduced site wide annual electricity use by 4.5%, with 60% of neighborhood households actively participating.
