Arvada Police Station
The Lake Arbor Community Station and West Woods Community Station are two separate approximately 9,000 sf police substations strategically placed within the City of Arvada as part of the City’s decentralized policing model. Due to the size and budget, we focused on simple designs with high-efficiency conventional HVAC systems (see table below). This sized building lends itself to small commercial / residential equipment that tends to be more efficient. The building CO2 emissions are reduced by almost 40%. Each substation is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for things like remote briefings, and includes a front lobby, a community room, a secured service desk, briefing rooms, offices, locker rooms, a fitness room, personal use rooms, shooting range and a break area.
Initial evaluation of passive elements was difficult because each of the sites has different conditions that are driving siting of the building. This project won a 2014 Best Project Award from ENR Mountain States and achieved LEED Gold Certification.
The new Arvada PD station is targeting a 20-30% energy cost reduction relative to an ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Baseline
