Susan Reilly, Principal
P.E., BEMP, LEED AP BD+C, Mechanical Engineering (MS)
Susan Reilly is the president of Group14 Engineering. Susan has worked with design teams throughout the U.S. to incorporate greater energy efficiency and sustainable design practices into their projects over the past 17 years. Susan is well-known for her energy modeling expertise and received the 2006 Practitioner of the Year Award from the U.S. chapter of the International Building Performance Simulation Association. She has worked as reviewer for LEED Energy and Atmosphere Credits and as technical support for the development of the Energy and Atmosphere sections of the reference guides for the USGBC LEED-NC, CI, and EB.  Sue always looks forward to the days when she can hang out at the beach and read Last Days of Summer.  Life motto:  “Relax, have a pickle”.

Dennis Jones, Commissioning Services Director
P.E., LEED AP BD+C, CxA, Mechanical Engineering (BS) and (MS), Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

Dennis Jones leads the commissioning and recommissioning efforts for Group14 Engineering. Dennis has 30 years experience in the renewable and building energy field, including 20 years of experience with DOE-2 building energy simulation. Dennis has managed hundreds of energy audits including field survey, data trending, analysis, cost estimating, report preparation, implementation assistance, final inspection, and commissioning for commercial and industrial clients. Dennis recently commissioned 1800 Larimer and The Spire in Denver and recommissioned properties for Forest City, EPA Complex, New Carrolton IRS Building, 1755 Blake and the South Bay Galleria. Dennis is currently leading the Group14’s project teams now recommissioning Montclair Recreation Center and Police Station 1 for the City of Denver, as well as projects for the State of Colorado.  Dennis enjoys taking his dog Ziggy for walks (especially in the mountains) and out for sushi – happy hour at Wasabi is the best.

Xia Fang, Building Energy Engineer
P.E., CEM, LEED AP BD+C, Mechanical Engineering (MS)

Xia has over 10 years of experience in building engineering fields. She has expertise in HVAC design, retroCx and building energy simulation using EnergyPlus, DOE-2/eQuest,  and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Prior to joining Group14, Xia worked as a  building research engineer in National Renewable Energy Laboratory. During her free time, Xia enjoys reading, cooking and being a companion to her son for various activities. Her current favorite reading: Here’s Looking at Euclid.

Matt Cooper, Building Energy Engineer
P.E., BEMP, LEED AP BD+C, HBDP, Architectural Engineering (BS)
Matt Cooper joins Group14’s staff to further enhance and deepen our sustainable building consulting practice. With over ten years of HVAC/plumbing design and project management experience, Matt has lead projects across Colorado and the United States in their pursuit of sustainable, energy efficient performance.  Matt’s project roles include energy modeling, commissioning and retro-commissioning.  When not at work Matt enjoys starting his day with a pot of coffee and The New York Times before joining his wife and two daughters for a trip to the zoo, botanic gardens or any of Denver’s great parks.

Laura Charlier, LEED Services Director
LEED AP BD+C, Interior Design (BA)
Laura has over 20 years experience in the building and construction industry, and an extensive knowledge of building materials and finishes. Laura heads up the Group14 LEED services group. With thorough knowledge and understanding of LEED requirements, process, documentation and resources and the necessary skills to make certification of a project run smoothly, Laura is able to support and encourage project participants in the LEED certification process. Laura’s experience includes work on multiple LEED projects and various LEED rating systems providing a range of services including expertise on site issues, water, materials, construction waste management, and indoor environmental quality as well as managing all disciplines of the building industry.  Recent projects include the LEED Gold Certified Village Center Station in Greenwood Village and the LEED Gold Certified Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver’s LoDo.  Laura’s three children help remind her to always enjoy life and to never stop learning.  Her household is a lively one with: a cat, a dog, a lizard, 2 rats, a pet slug, and a praying mantis.

Joshua Marceau, LEED Coordinator
LEED AP BD+C, EB:O&M, Sustainable Building (MS), International Business (BS)

Josh works as a coordinator within the LEED services group. He has over 5 years of experience working with LEED projects across various rating systems, including New Construction, Existing Buildings, Schools, Commercial Interiors and Core and Shell. Josh has also served as the Chair of the Speakers Bureau of the Colorado Chapter, Metro Branch of the USGBC. He has given various presentation trainings on LEED and overarching sustainability principals. Josh served as a Project Specialist on the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, a $3.2 billion allocation of ARRA. Outside the office, Josh races mountain bikes and enjoys spending time with his wife and their dog Joey, working on his yoga practice. Josh is always looking for a new way to make his home more water and energy efficient.

Rachelle Macur, LEED Services Support, Green House Gas Specialist
LEED AP BD+C, Sustainable Development & Political Ecology (MA), Anthropology (BA)
Rachelle is the head of our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting and consulting service, providing an in-depth knowledge of how to run Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for our clients, and to further work with them on reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.  Her experience includes accounting and consulting for municipalities, universities, companies, events, and engineered designs.  Rachelle also provides LEED Services Support for Group14. She has worked on several LEED projects, including leading the efforts for LEED Platinum Certification for Group14’s office – the first in the world to achieve certification under the new LEED BD+C system.  Rachelle thinks a perfect way to spend a day is going to a Cirque du Soleil show -or- hiking with her husband and two year old daughter – favorite stomping grounds: Yoho and Jasper NP in the Canadian Rockies.

Michael Levinson, LEED EBOM Specialist, Energy Analyst
LEED AP O+M, Business Administration (BS)

Michael Levinson has been an energy efficiency and sustainability analyst for 9 years. Currently, he serves as a LEED Existing Building Operations and Maintenance consultant for Group14 Engineering.  Michael specializes in ASHRAE Level I and II energy audits, retro-commissioning, the assessment of energy efficient investments’ financial performance, and LEED Existing Building certification services. Michael has also helped clients identify and successfully apply for millions of dollars in energy efficiency incentive, tax credit, and loan programs. Recently, he served as the LEED consultant for the LEED O&M certification of the Monsanto Center. This was the first LEED O&M project certified in the State of Missouri. He’s a speaker for Buildings Magazine, regional US Green Building Council chapters, and business associations on sustainability issues in the existing built environment.  In his free time, Michael seeks out new pasta recipes and continues his exploration of “easy to moderate” hikes in Colorado.

Brody Wilson, Commissioning Agent
LEED AP BD+C, Physics (BA)
Brody works as a commissioning agent and project manager for Group14.  Brody’s experience includes retro-commissioning and energy auditing of millions of square feet of existing buildings – including institutional, government, higher education, military, commercial and retail settings.  As a commissioning agent for new construction, Brody has seen dozens for projects from design through final LEED certification.  Brody has worked with system types ranging from 1,600 ton campus chilled water plants, large VRF systems, VAV systems, and industrial refrigeration.  He also brings experience in the industrial efficiency field, and has performed plant-wide energy audits of plants with utility budgets ranging from $3 million to $12 million per year.   In addition to his degree in physics, Brody also has a degree in Trumpet Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory. His happiest moments: arriving in Hawaii after a single-handed ocean crossing (from California!) and climbing the 14ers of Colorado.

Austin Hermsen, Energy Engineer
E.I.T., LEED AP BD+C, Mechanical Engineering (BS)
Austin assists with commissioning, recommissioning and energy modeling projects for Group14. Austin provides trend analysis, reporting, and data logger deployment for projects such as recommissioning Stone Mountain Elementary School, in Douglas County School District, commissioning Denver School of Science and Technology and City of Denver’s Montclair Recreation Center. Austin is also deploying data loggers and analyzing data in the State of Colorado office buildings for recommissioning. Austin performs energy analysis for using eQuest and helps inform the design process by providing cost and savings information for a range of efficiency options. Austin has helped design teams optimize energy efficiency and document savings for LEED, for projects such as the Lakewood Housing Authority’s five-building Maplewood Apartments, the DECA Commissary, and the Crosby Hotel in New York, NY.  Austin loves his new home in Uptown Square and spends many of his lunch hours trying new local restaurants.

Dave Heinicke, Energy Engineer
E.I.T., LEED AP BD+C, Mechanical Engineering (BS)
Dave provides technical support to energy modeling, commissioning and LEED certification projects. Dave helps design teams optimize energy efficiency using eQuest energy simulation on many projects, including the new Math and Science Building for Blackfeet Community College in Browning, Montana and Columbine Elementary School for the Boulder Valley School District.  Dave enjoys relaxing to a good beer and an even better meal at Park Burger (who doesn’t?).  When in need of a little adventure, he loves to go rafting and to hike in Zion NP.

Shelia Gore, Building Researcher
Sheila leads Group14’s National Fenestration Rating Council certification work for window manufacturers, providing expertise on window and glazing systems since 2000. Sheila also provides building research support, including research for the Cost-Effectiveness of LEED project for the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office.  She enjoys hanging out with her friends & family and lives to vacation.  Favorite place to visit: Hawaii.

Elizabeth Gillmor, Lighting Energy Engineer
P.E., IALD, LEED AP BD+C, Architectural Engineering (BS)
Elizabeth leads our lighting and daylighting services and manages projects in our design assistance group. Elizabeth has 13 years of experience designing energy-efficient, quality lighting systems for stadiums, office buildings and residences. Elizabeth provides LEED documentation for interior and exterior lighting calculations and daylighting credits. She recently designed the lighting for a Platinum LEED Home in Centennial, Colorado, using LED’s and other innovative technologies. She has been awarded the IES Lighting Design Award of Merit and was selected as a judge for the 2010 IES Illumination Awards.  Elizabeth lives with her husband and three little girls on a 5 acre horse farm; in her free time she’s a competitive rider and enjoys relaxing with a good story on her kindle.  Favorite book: Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Alison Theriot, Energy and Lighting Analyst
LEED AP BD+C, Construction Management (BS), Illumination Design (MS)
Alison­­­­­­­ has a broad knowledge base of the design and construction industry and focuses her efforts in sustainability and environmental consciousness within the field.  Her past industry experience includes work in residential interior design, small commercial construction both in the field and in project estimation, and most recently in sustainable design consultation and LEED services providing LEED feasibility, design integration, and credit review and analysis for successful LEED Certification.  Her efforts have recently switched focus to the field of lighting design in promoting effective daylighting design integration and energy efficient controls.  Alison enjoys the wonderful world of travel and all the experiences that come with it.  While she may always look forward to the next big adventure, she never forgets the comfort of home.

Emily Rader-Neely, Energy Analyst
E.I.T., LEED Green Associate, Mechanical Engineering (BS), Civil Engineering: Building Systems (MS in progress)

Emily provides technical support to commissioning and energy modeling projects.  She conducts utility analyses for trending building energy consumption on many projects including 1801 California and Morey Middle School. In her spare time, she plays rugby for the Boulder Babes, skis, and climbs 14ers with her husband.

Brian Graham, Energy Analyst
E.I.T., Mechanical Engineering (BS), Systems Engineering (MS)

Brian provides technical support for commissioning and retro-commissioning projects. He also develops Visual Basic-based tools for energy savings calculations and in-depth trending analysis. On weekends, he enjoys exploring the Rockies with his wife via board, bike, or boots.

Stan Wagner, Business Manager
LEED Green Associate, Urban Analysis (BA)

Stan oversees marketing, business development and operations for Group14 Engineering. With nearly 15 years of experience in operations and marketing, Stan focuses on optimizing company operations and developing strong partnerships with like-minded companies across the United States. Stan values building relationships through networking, and he has spoken on networking and social media to organizations across the Southwest. Stan is a board member of SMPS Colorado and is in his third year as chair of USGBC Colorado’s Green Schools Summit.  Stan lives just a few blocks from Group14 office, and spends much of his off-time with his two dogs, Bruno and Natasha.  You can follow Stan on Twitter – @stanwagner.

Lauren Graham, Office Manager & Administrative Support
LEED Green Associate, Environmental Economics (BA)

Lauren is responsible for managing Group14’s office and providing administrative support to our staff. She assists the start up of new projects and tracks the ongoing progress of their billing. Lauren also manages staff professional development opportunities, informing them on the latest industry products/services. Lauren is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelors in Economics and a specialization in Environmental Economics and Public Policy.  When Lauren isn’t working, she can be found hiking or snowboarding with her fiancé, depending on the season.
